Maison de Terre à Laulne

This type of building technique was first used in the area in the 16th C.  The Regional Natural Park of the Cotentin and Bessin Wetlands plays a big part in the restoration of such buildings (technical know-how, financial aid etc). It is interesting to note that our wetland area together with the Rennes basin (in Brittany) are the only two places in France which have this type of heritage. Within the district there are fine examples of earthen houses, notably at Laulne, Vesly and Saint-Patrice-de-Claids.

Here, the outbuildings at the Manoir de la Guerrie contain two bakehouses which are both earth-built.
