In the Middle Ages the village was known as Foliata. “La feuillie” means “house constructed with branches and vegetation”.

The village has a number of interesting buildings within its boundaries, including the Saint-Louis mill which once belonged to the French king of the same name.

The first mayor of the village, the Blessed Gardener Deslandes, was also parish priest – his statue can be found in the church and his likeness in the stained glass window of the North chapel.
