CYCLE ROUTES

The cycle routes have been developed by the Departmental Tourist Board together with other tourist and cycling bodies.

They consist of circuits, usually about 20 km long, which are specially suited for bikes and using roads which have little traffic on them.  They are signposted with green signs.

Circuit No 7 "Les vents de Huppelande" takes you through the villages of Lessay, Vesly and Gerville-la-Forêt.  It is 24 km long and takes about 3 hours to complete.

GREEN WAY OF THE MANCHE

Since 1991 the local authorities have been re-developing the old railway lines and tow paths along the river Vire.  Today there are 250 km of tracks which have been done up, which are ideal for walkers, cyclists and horse riders.  The circuit "au cœur de la presqu’île" will take you from Cambernon in the south to Rocheville in the north, via Portbail.

LES CHEMINS DU MONT SAINT-MICHEL

The Chemins du Mont Saint-Michel Association was created in 1998, with the aim of rediscovering the medieval pilgrimage routes which brought pilgrims from throughout Europe to the Mont Saint-Michel and to make them usable once again.  The itineraries are signposted with a logo depicting the Mont and a scallop shell.

These routes pass through the villages of Saint-Germain-sur-Ay, Lessay, Créances, Pirou and Geffosses.

THE GR 223

The GR 223 is part of the grande randonnée network, and locally is more commonly known as the "sentier des douaniers" (or customs officers’ path).  It follows the coastline along the length of the Manche from the  marshes at Carentan to the Mont Saint-Michel via Cap de la Hague.  Within our district the path goes through the villages of Bretteville-sur-Ay, Saint-Germain-sur-Ay, Lessay, Créances, Pirou and Geffosses.
